Nineteen Seventy-One

Sharing is caring!

Two thousand, three hundred and two days before my birth a little baby boy was born on a cold winter Sunday night in December. He was called Timothy. This boy would grow up to have a profound impact on my life. As he says, when he was around 5 ½ years-old, he went through one of the most heartbreaking times in his life he would ever experience. God knew that there were no little girls on earth for him, therefore just shy of five weeks after my sister Tonja was born, God sparked a love between my parents that allowed them to conceive me.

Yes, you read it correctly. Timothy believes that little baby girl (me) was created just for him and he told me this during our first real date. Although I wasn’t originally sold on the idea, I came to believe we shared a story that was meant to be. Whatever the future holds, every moment we’ve shared together and apart has shaped the people we are today.

The first time I met him was during the summer before I started college. I was renting a movie from a library and he asked if he could join me. I turned and said “Ask God” and I walked away. The next summer we met again and this time he was dressed to impress. I tried to avoid encountering him, but it was too late. Our eyes had met. As he walked up to me to introduce himself, he then told me that I was his wife and one day he’d prove it. I recall grilling that evening with my sister and smiling about the crazy guy. Little did I know it was only the beginning.

I was fresh out of college when our relationship became more than a possibility. I recall my first time visiting his two-bedroom castle as he called it. He had invited me to a home-cooked meal which was perfect because as a college student, the last thing on my mind was learning how to cook. We talked as he cooked with a background of Jazz playing. I recall suddenly having more faith in the male species.

The summer of 2001 was one of the best in my life. My heart was filled with so much love and hope, it seemed as if I was floating. He taught me how to drive, cook, and to look forward to something other than Work. He walked with me hand in hand through the parks and other places. We went on road trips and he introduced me to his city and family. Two months later we said vows and a year later we welcomed our first-born daughter into the world.

Sixteen and a half years later we have three daughters, a dog, and a cat. I always find myself smiling ear to ear when I think of all the father and daughter moments they share. I am grateful to his mother who came through childbirth nearly 16,803 days ago because that Event has caused me to experience a love like no other – motherhood. The birth of my husband is one reason I will always love December.

Other than maybe Christmas, does December hold any special memories for you? Are you grateful for the birth of someone in your life? Do you enjoy being a parent? Please share in the comments, I would love to hear all about it.

  1. Your story sounds like a beautiful fairytale. Sounds like you got a good one I am waiting for the day a man predicts and says with convictions that I am his future wife!
