Your Checklist To Avoid A Stressful House Move

Sharing is caring!

You struggled and saved to get into your first property all those years ago, but that time has come to move on. You could be moving to a different location, needing something bigger, maybe even looking for something smaller. Either way, you need to sell your home and relocate. This may seem like a monumental task, but don’t worry. Below is your go-to checklist to take you from wanting to live somewhere else to kicking off your shoes and having a relaxing evening in your new home.

Advertise your property

The first thing you’re going to need to do is to advertise your property through a real estate agent or realtor. They will be able to advise you the best price to market your property at. You will need to shop around as different agencies will charge different fees. You should also start looking for a solicitor so that you are ready for when the offers start pouring in and you want to accept one.

Search new houses

While the real estate agency is earning its money by trying to find as many buyers as possible for your current home, you need to start looking for somewhere new to live. Decide what location you would like to live in, how many rooms you need, what size garden you would like etc. It is important to have a good list of essential criteria so that you can weigh up your options. Get the whole family involved to make it a real bonding experience. It could take a while to find the right property for you, so don’t give up hope if nothing appears to be on the market just yet.

Pack

Once you’ve found your new home, had your offer accepted, accepted an offer on your own property, and completed all the legal paperwork, it’s time to start packing. Go from room to room rather than packing a little bit here and there. Non-essential things, like spare bedding, out of season clothing, and furniture that isn’t used daily, can be boxed up first and potentially put into storage. Simply searching for great storage near me will throw up a variety of options. The benefit of putting some things in storage is that it frees up space in your current home during the lengthy packing process, meaning that you’re less likely to accidentally knock over that expensive china that was a wedding present. It also makes it easier to unpack in stages when you get to your new home too. You should also use this time to search for, and hire the services of, a moving company. The earlier, the better, as you don’t want to get to a week before the move and not be able to find anyone to help you.

Move

Once you’re all packed and ready for moving, it’s time to hand over to the professionals. Your moving company will take control of making sure that everything is packed carefully into the van or lorry and arrives safe and sound at the other end. Just try not to get in their way.

Decorate

Once you’ve got all your boxes scattered about the house, it’s time to get out the paintbrushes. Most people like to decorate a house when they move in, and it’s much easier to do it before you’ve unpacked than after. Plan ahead to make sure you’ve got everything you need to get it all done as soon as possible. If you’re very lucky, you may have access to the property before moving day and can have it decorated before you even turn up with all your things.

There you have it, a basic checklist to make sure that nothing gets forgotten and that your move is as stress-free as possible. What are some things you did to make your move stressfree? Did you use a checklist?  Please share in the comments below. I really would love to know.

Until next time, shine amongst the stars!
