Even if you’re a naturally confident and outgoing person, there’s a good chance that your external shell hides some insecurities. When you become a mom, there’s a lot to take in, and it’s very common to experience a crisis of confidence. If your self-esteem has plummeted or you don’t quite feel yourself, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some baby steps you can take to feel more confident after having children.

Realize that your best is all you can do

There’s no manual when it comes to parenting, so don’t worry if you feel like you’re getting everything wrong or you don’t know what you’re doing when you bring your baby home or you’re trying to comfort a toddler throwing a tantrum. Being a parent is hard work, and nothing can prepare you for the challenges it will throw at you on a daily basis. If you’re doing your best, that’s all anyone could ask of you. Be kind to yourself, and realize that every single parent is in the same boat. If you ask relatives and friends, they’ll probably tell you that they went through exactly the same emotions. Be confident in the fact that you’re doing a good job, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you could do with a nap or you’re desperate to get out of the house for half an hour and stretch your legs. The smallest things can make all the difference.

Don’t compare yourself to others

In the days of social media, it can be virtually impossible to go about day to day life without comparing yourself to people you know, social influencers and celebrities. Social media can be brilliant for moms. It gives you a way of socializing and maintaining contact with people you love when it’s hard to get out and about, and it can prevent you from feeling detached from the real world. However, it can also be harmful. It’s human nature to compare yourself to others, and the last thing you need when you’re lacking confidence is a stream of images of buff beach bodies or perfect families. Looking at photos and posts can make you question why you don’t look a certain way and why you’re not finding the journey of parenthood quite so breezy. The truth is that social media gives you a glimpse of what’s going on. It’s just a snapshot. Photographs are edited and enhanced, and people only document what they want to. If you find that social media is getting you down, take a break.

Tackle body issues when you’re ready

Having children brings about major changes in your body. Today, we see celebrity moms pinging back into shape in photo shoots weeks after giving birth, and this is not always a healthy message to send out to other moms. If you’re not confident because you gained a lot of weight during pregnancy, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to shed some pounds, but do this when you’re ready. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, take your time and do what makes you feel comfortable. Many women wait months or even years to tackle weight gain, so don’t feel like you have to start training or watching what you eat from the day you get home. Focus on your health, look after yourself and take baby steps. It’s worth bearing in mind that it may not be possible to regain your pre-baby body. If you’ve got stubborn fat deposits, it can be tough to get rid of them. There are non-surgical contouring treatments available from clinics like CLDerm.com, but you shouldn’t feel pressure to look perfect. If you have areas of your body that you’re not happy with and you want to consider treatment options, it should always be your choice. Remember what your body has been through and realize just how incredible it is. You don’t have to look like a bikini model to feel confident, and sometimes, it’s important to understand that perfection isn’t reality.

Surround yourself with the right people

When you have children, you’ll experience a lot of changes all at the same time, and it can be hard to digest what has happened. If you’re anxious about doing a good job, you’re worried about how you look or you’re doubting your abilities to juggle jobs for the next few years, it’s really beneficial to have a support system in place. Surround yourself with the right people. Lean on close friends and family who will be there for you when you need them and spend your time with people who build you up and make you feel more confident and secure. Don’t waste time trying to maintain relationships with anyone who puts you down or makes you question what you’re doing or how you feel. Often, when you have children, it gives you a new perspective on life, and you start to realize what is really important to you.

Take a little time for you

Being a mom can be hectic, no matter what age your kids are. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your confidence and mental wellbeing takes a little time out on a regular basis. You need to be you sometimes and not just Mom. Hobbies are a great way to socialize, indulge your interests and take a breather from parenting. Do yoga, join a running club, learn a language, take art classes or join a choir. If you need more inspiration, take a look at these ideas https://www.thebalance.com/cheap-and-fun-hobbies-4125444.
