A Mother’s Home

Sharing is caring!

If you familar with my story, you will know that it took time to adjust myself to motherhood. My mom is my hero and she made motherhood seem like a course you had to study it college. She certainly made our house a home. I feared I couldn’t live up to my own expectation without proper study on the topic. However, the rewards of motherhood brings me such joy and satisfaction. Mother’s Day is observed to celebrate this devine nature of women.

The other night, I was sitting on the porch with my husband. We were doing a little people watching while talking and sharing with one another. After a few hours, I felt tired, kissed him and told him I was headed to bed. He told me he would be up after a while, but he wanted to enjoy the good weather and scenery a bit longer. So I walked into the kitchen to grab a glass of lemon-water.

While in the kitchen drinking my water I rinsed and placed a few dishes in the dish washer and started it. I also wiped the sink and counter tops then made lunches for the girls. I added a few things to the grocery list as well. I then tidyed up the living room, placed the clothes from the washer into the dryer, then placed another load in the washer, and tidyed up the laundry room before leaving out. I checked on the girls – my youngest two were already sleeping. I kissed them, tidyed their rooms, and checked the window locks.

I then checked on my oldest daughter and she was still awake. We talked about the assignment she was finishing up and I kissed her and picked up her dirty socks from the floor placing them in the laundry basket. Once I made it to my room I took out my clothes for the next day, then showered, washed and moisturized my face, and brushed my teeth. I took the trash out the basket and replaced the bag. I stuck my head out to the porch and asked my hubby to take it out. He looked at me and said, “Baby, I thought you were going to bed.”

He grabbed the trash bag from me as I told him that I was going. I went back into the kitchen and put food in the dog’s bowl and got five bottles of water. When Tim walked in I asked him to make sure that the door was locked and I told him I had checked the other ones already. He followed me up the stairs and explained that he was going to bed. I placed a bottle of water on each of my three girls’ night stands and walked into the master bedroom. Tim was already in bed. I placed a bottle of water on his night stand and one on mine. I got in bed and Tim placed his arms around me and said, “You take a long time going to bed.”

I smiled and said, “Yes my love. I do.” We kissed each other again and said good night. I truly enjoy being my husband’s wife and my girls’ mom. I’m very thankful for all the things Tim and the girls do, but as a wife and mom,  I understand that it takes a lot of awareness and planning to run this corporation called Home. Therefore, I see all the small things that make this house a home and keep it running smoothly as I possibly can.

Are you the type of person that does the mental checklist before bed, or are you more like my hubby – when you say you are going to bed, you do just that? Or are you somewhere in between? What are you do to celebrate Mother’s Day? Please share in the comments below, I really would love to know.

Until next time, shine amongst the stars!

  1. You are a superwoman and I salute you for that. Motherhood is a distant thought as of now but if I hear stories about how rewarding motherhood is, it make me want to reassess my life to see if I am ready. Happy mother’s day to you!

  2. I don’t really have a nighttime checklist of things to do before bed. I usually just brush my teeth and go to bed.
