Family Friendly Trip To Pennsylvania

Sharing is caring!

The time has come when school is out for most and summer love is all in the air. What better to do after a long nine-month series of studies and tests then to put away the books, pack your worn out students up, and go on vacation? Typically our vacation destinations are pre-planned months ahead of time. Being that I’m an event planner (when I have time), my organizational tendencies ensure that I pre-dot all i’s and pre-cross all t’s.

Well last year, we did something different. My husband planned the vacay to his ideal destination of Pennsylvania. “Why” you ask? I asked why as well. It turns out that there are many iconic landmarks and amazing places to visit. We were able to take in a tour of the brilliantly designed home of Frank Lloyd Wright in Laurel Highlands – the Fallingwaters. A must-see! Simply genius. Then there’s the Glass house I’d like to call a mansion designed by Dale Chihuly and a few others. It has 22 unbelievable gardens. We even had time to take a trip to the ballpark.

Gettysburg National Military Park is very moving. It takes you back to the time of General Lee’s defeat and the end of the Civil War is where my mind was found. We didn’t take the guided battlefield tours this time but next time for sure. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and have a lot of great stories to tell. The Laurel Caves in Farmington were very interesting, a little chilly but well worth the hour it takes to get through the tour. Another great place to visit is the Wolf Sanctuary where you get to see actual wolves and wolf-dog hybrids that will get a good howl in if you can egg them on. If you’re ever in the area, stop by Lititz, Pennsylvania.

The main rave was the cozy cabin we stayed in at Refreshing Mountain Retreat Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. You can view cabin rentals in PA here. The time spent with the family unplugged in the cabin undistracted by the usual overabundance of electronic conveniences was heavenly. We actually had some unusual conversation and got to know each other more. Of course, the cabin came with Wi-Fi and a few modern amenities as well.

There was a plethora of different things to do like hitting the multiple Ziplines and amazing bridges, and the Elevated Obstacles that pose 22 different challenges on 2 different levels. We indulged in outdoor activities that our girls loved. Driving the pedal carts and getting to hold small farm animals and pet larger ones was were very thrilling. We never to tired for a quick swim.

We learned how to shoot arrows and had a ton of laughs while shooting at paintball targets. Our, then 11 year-old, surprisingly had the best aim and got it the fastest out of all of us. From the bridges that were some 6-30’ high above the forest, we were basically walking on clouds. There were several options for eats on site and convenient rest stops.

Being able to quickly get back to the cabin after a tiring day of fun just made enjoying themselves so convenient especially by avoiding all the traffic. The cabin rentals in PA were an unbelievable low nightly cost so I think hubby did pretty good, don’t you? The staff was awesome and we look forward to our trip this year back to Refresshing Mountian. Does a vacation sounds good to you? Have you ever took a trip to the Pennsylvania? Please share in the comments below. I really would love to know.

Until next time, shine amongst the stars!

  1. I like your posts very much. Pennsylvania looks like a place I would choose 🙂
However, I am in Europe, so this year we are traveling to Greece.
PS. I did not even know how much you and I have in common. I am also a social and event manager. I organized several dozen events (from 50 to over 10,000 people).
