Why Online Degrees Are Perfect For Stay At Home Moms

Sharing is caring!

When your kids start to get a bit older, you might start thinking about what you’re going to do when they leave home. Even though it’s still quite a while off, there’s no harm in planning ahead. A lot of parents want to get back into work after their kids leave home, but that can be difficult. The number of people getting a degree is on the rise and if you don’t have one, you’re going to be at a disadvantage. Employers are more likely to hire the people that have more qualifications so if you’re going to even the playing field, you’ll probably have to get a degree at some point. One option is to go back to college full-time but that’s not ideal in later life. When you’ve got a mortgage to pay and a family to support, spending all of that time and money in education is going to cause you a lot of financial problems. But don’t worry, there is a solution. Online learning is very popular amongst stay at home parents at the moment because it’s the perfect fit. If you’re considering getting back into education in later life, here’s why online courses are the ideal way to do it.

You Can Balance Your Time Better

The biggest challenge you face when trying to get more qualifications in later life is balancing your education with your family. Going back into education full-time just isn’t going to work out if you need to be around to pick up the kids from school. You can’t exactly ask for all of the class schedules to be changed to fit around you. But if you’re doing an online course, you can do the work as and when it suits you so it won’t interfere with any of your existing responsibilities. The workload in full-time education is also a problem. When you’ve got a limited amount of time to complete your degree and you’ve got deadlines, you’ll have to quite a few hours each week outside of classes. As a stay at home parent, you just don’t have that time to spare. But if you do the course online instead, you can set your own schedule. You don’t have to finish it in an allotted time and if you need to take a few months off during a particularly busy time (like the school holidays, for example), that’s fine. You can just pick it up again when you’ve got the free time to carry on.

More Options For Courses

People getting a degree at 18 don’t necessarily need to find something that leads directly into a career. They’ve got the time to sample a few jobs and find something. But you’ll want to get straight into work when you’ve got your degree. You can do things like an operations management online degree which will teach you skills that are directly transferable to the world of work. It’s those more specific, job-related courses that are more suitable for parents looking to get back into work in later life.

Childcare Costs

The cost of getting a degree itself is one thing to consider, but what about all of the other costs? If you’re having to go out to attend classes all of the time, you’ll have to pay for childcare costs. That can quickly mount up if you’re going to a lot of classes. But when you’re doing it online, you can complete your studies while you’re at home watching the kids.

Doing an online course is cheaper, more flexible and gives you better job opportunities at the end. That’s why it’s the perfect choice for stay at home moms.

  1. These all sound like great reasons for stay at home moms to get a online degree. I think biggest thing for me would be time and cost. Daycare or babysitters can be expensive.
