Every time we get out of bed, we have been blessed with a new day to turn into something beautiful. However, there is a growing number of people who are struggling to get out of bed every morning because of a chronic illness. If you are one of these people, or you know someone in this situation, here are some ways that you can help make your life a little easier.
Get a proper diagnose
This might sound like a simple thing but there are a lot of people living with chronic illnesses who have been misdiagnosed. This can be damaging physically and mentally as people try to navigate their day. If you discover that you have been wrongly diagnosed and it has impacted your life massively, you should speak to a medical malpractice attorney to see if you have many options. Some people don’t like to chase things up but if your life has been badly affected, it is worth picking up the phone and having a chat.
Know your triggers
Chronic illness is not always black and white but there might be some things that can cause a heap of different problems. If you discover that your IBS or headaches are caused by eating certain foods, you should avoid eating them. You might have to track your symptoms for a few months to ensure that you get a hold of what causes outbursts or flare-ups. Not only can this help you to avoid further flare-ups, but you can also take your information to the doctor to explain your symptoms in more detail.
Every day is different
People with chronic illnesses have to deal with the side effects of their illnesses every day, but every day will be different. For example, an IBS sufferer might have a week when everything is fine but then something sets them off unexpectedly. They might have done the exact same thing every day of the week, but our bodies react differently to the world every day. If you have someone who has a chronic illness, you need to understand that there are days that they will be fine and other days that it will floor them.
There is no cure
At this present moment in time, there is no known cure for the vast majority of chronic illnesses. There is medication and therapies that can help you manage the symptoms, but there is no cure. Please do not message someone with a chronic illness about your wellness routine and miracle cures. Trust us, if there was such a thing as a miracle cure or a wellness routine that would reverse the damage to their body, they would be doing it rather than suffering every day.
One of the best things that you can do for a friend or family member who has a chronic illness is to be supportive and help them if they will allow you. And if you have a chronic illness, remember to take it easy on yourself and show yourself some kindness.
