How Your Child’s Health Can Be Affected By Spending Too Much Time Inside

Sharing is caring!

Spending too much time inside can have a knock-on effect on your health. However, thanks to the pandemic and string of lockdowns we’ve been through, we haven’t had much choice in the matter! As a result, we’ve seen more and more mental and physical health issues affect our families in the past 2 years, and it’s been hard to ensure that our kids can stay healthy and active.

But what can really happen when your children are stuck inside for too long, with no chance of getting out and about? Let’s go through the potential health issues below; they can be difficult to deal with, but if you see them coming, they’ll be a lot more manageable.

Being Unable to Sleep

Being inside a lot, and leading a more sedentary lifestyle, can cause your kids to rail against bedtime and ultimately be unable to get a good night’s sleep. And that’s a nightmare to deal with! After all, staying inside isn’t really exhausting, though it can cause you to feel fatigued.

But getting more active within your home, like dancing and singing and even playing fighting every so often, can help to address this issue. Create more opportunities for movement and the kids will get back into their normal routine.

Poor Posture Issues

Spending too much time inside, either sitting down, lounging, or in front of a screen, can lead to poor posture issues. Your child is hunched over often, rather than being up and about and allowing their muscles to stretch out properly, and that can cause problems later on.

However, if you notice your child slouching a lot more often, or they’re walking a little weirdly, be sure to get in touch with a Pediatric Chiropractor. Aside from giving you the advice to tackle the problem, they can also help your child tackle the aches and pains associated with these poor posture movements. You could also invest in a small standing desk for them to color or do homework on.

Feeling Grumpy

Does your child ever seem a little too grumpy? And we don’t mean ‘I’m tired but I don’t want to show it’ or ‘someone else is playing with my favorite toy’ kind of grumpy. We mean the grumpy out of nowhere kind! Well once again, this can be a side effect of not getting outside. We need to be out and about to maintain good mental wellbeing.

So, if you have a garden, it’s a good idea to get out there a little more often, and allow your child some time outdoors – you can even get them to plant this year’s flower beds for you! But if you don’t have any outdoor space, even just opening a window and getting a window-mounted planter box to take care of could really help your child adjust to being inside more often.

Staying inside too much can be harmful, but only if you’re not sure how to counteract it! Keep tips like these in mind.

  1. We try to go outside with the kids as much as we can, we find it keeps their creativity alive and really ensures they sleep well at night.
