When you fall pregnant or become a mom, your life changes completely. Not only are you responsible for a little one but there’s everything that comes with being a mom which makes it a challenge too.

With that being said, a community is something worth having as a new mom. Here are some helpful ways to create a supportive community as a mom this year.

Build a network through online organizations and resources

A good way to help create a supportive community as a mom is to build a network of support. That can come through online organizations and resources like Embrace Grace for example. These organizations and resources are helpful for those who are expecting some challenges

Whether it’s an unexpected pregnancy, or a planned one but you have no support around you, having resources like the one mentioned above is great for those who need it in times of need.

Having a network of professional resources and guidance is extremely helpful to ensure you’re given the support you need during these testing and trying times.

Join an online community group

There are many advantages to social media and one of those is that you can take advantage of online community groups that help women who are pregnant or who have just become new parents.

There are lots of online community groups via platforms like Facebook, and Instagram or specialized platforms like Peanut.

Take a group class in person

You’ll find that when you’re pregnant or when you have a baby, there are lots of group classes to take advantage of in person. From music-led classes to swimming lessons, there are lots of opportunities to meet new people through these groups.

Look at your local group classes available locally and consider exploring these when you’re pregnant or once you’re ready to step outside the comfort and confines of your home with your little one.

Try to befriend parents that have children older or younger than you

To help navigate life with your little one, it’s worth looking at befriending the parents who have children who are either slightly older or younger than your own. That’s likely how you’ll find the right connections you need.

Consider who might be able to help you navigate those newborn years or who you could help when their children are navigating the toddler stage.

Be patient and keep trying

As you get older, it’s often a lot more difficult to make friends, which is why it’s important to be patient and keep trying. You might not make friends straight away and some bonds might form over time.

The key is to be patient and keep trying, even if you don’t make as many friendships within those first few months of your pregnancy or during the early years of motherhood.

Creating a supportive community as a mom is important, so with that being said, look at what you can find locally and what might be available through your own network of friends and family once you find yourself pregnant or within those vulnerable stages of parenthood.
