Confidence Is Key: Building Your Kid’s Self Esteem

Sharing is caring!

There’s nothing like the sound of your little one’s having the best time; whether that’s running around and laughing out loud, or if they’re beaming with delight as they watch their favorite movie. Your kids and their happiness will mean everything to you. Just like grown-ups, there’ll be times when your little ones aren’t feeling great, or most like themselves. This is a normal part of life and growing-up. However, if you’re noticing that your kids confidence has taken a significant dip; it could be time to address it.

Obviously, they’re absolutely entitled to their emotions and what feelings they’re experiencing. However, it’s always worth implementing some things that may help to boost their confidence; giving them better self esteem. The following are some ideas for parents who want to help their little ones have strength in their self-belief, so they can be carefree kids more often.

Staying Active

It’s no secret that an active child is often healthy and happy. However, exercise, sport, and physical activity is a great way to boost a little one’s confidence and ability to take on whatever life throws at them. The best thing you can do is to try things; they’ll never know if they really like or dislike something until they give it a go. So, whether you book them into a Shaolin Kung Fu class, or swimming lesson, or let them join a dance group; encourage them to try their best.

They might be a little shy and nervous at first; however, if they try a couple of sessions, they’re more than likely to discover new skills and talents, and they can make new friends. They receive great encouragement from the teacher or instructor, and all of this will be contributing to their inner confidence.

Sharing Interests

Perhaps your kids are already active, with their park time, play, and school sports. Therefore, it might be worth sitting down and chatting about what they truly love to do. Then it’s time to invest some energy into encouraging that activity; a great way to do this is to join them or get involved. This will allow you to show support and boost them with compliments and tell them what a great job they’re doing.

If they love reading, hold a family book club each week. Maybe it’s art they’re drawn to; make time to sit with them and create together, go to art galleries and exhibitions. Or, if they love animals and nature; get outside with them, go exploring, take pictures. The possibilities are endless. Knowing that their parents are enthusiastic about their hobbies, with no doubt, has a positive impact on their self-worth and esteem.

Don’t Push

Kids may often change their minds, or realize that they don’t in fact like or love something anymore. It’s important to validate these feelings and not push them too hard to do something. This will ensure that your kids feel seen and heard; an instant boost for self-esteem and confidence in their decision-making.

Children may often come back around to something, or they’ll be given the emotional room to try something new and to grow. You’re doing a great job!
