Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

Sharing is caring!

According to my journal, it was Wednesday, February 13, 2002. I was finishing lunch with two of my gal-pals who had given up on Valentine’s Day. They both had reasons and I didn’t want to argue. Out of the three, I was the hopeless romantic. I love expressing love and sharing that love with others. The feeling I get when I express love or share love is magical. I love to see the looks on my loved one’s faces.

This was my first Valentine’s Day after I had said my vows and I was also pregnant. They asked what I would be doing tomorrow and if. I would be sharing it with Tim. As they said this, my heart melted because I had so much love for him, although I was a bit confused because I was going to become a mother. The confusion upset me because I chose these two ladies because I didn’t want to think about Tim or relationships at all. But the love I had for him showed all over my face. I explained how I was giving gifts to my nieces, nephews, mom, and dad. I shared that I didn’t do anything for Tim. As I said those words I glanced out the window to see a man open the door for his wife and I was overwhelmed with emotions because Tim always opened my doors.

The waiter brought us our receipts and my to-go lunch. As we walked out the door my friend told me I’d better do something for Tim. I smiled and said, “I’m giving him a bundle of joy in about four months.” My Jeep was the closest to the door because I was having a difficult pregnancy and I had parked in the area designated for expecting moms.

We stood at my passenger door as I placed my purse the gifts we had exchanged at lunch on my passenger seat,  I closed the door and asked the ladies to give me a minute. I took my lunch 20 feet away to a veteran who was braving the cold asking for money for a meal. I introduced myself and asked if he would like the meal I purchased for him while I noticed him from inside the restaurant. He pulled the hat from his head revealing his gray and blonde hair and he said, “Thank you, ma’am. I much appreciate this.” I told him, “No. Thank you for your service.” Then I explained how my brother was overseas servicing. While he was expressing his experience, my girlfriends walked over and said, “Sorry sir. We have to get the pregnant lady home out of the cold.” They also handed him money before we walked away.

Back at my Jeep, as I was reaching into my coat to grab my keys I was startled by the tall figure standing in front of me. Before I could recognize the image my girls grabbed me and gave me a hug goodbye and said, “You are in good hands.” The figure was Tim. He reached out his hand for me to take it and he walked me over to the passenger side, opens the door, placed my purse and gifts in the backseat. He helped me into to the Jeep then handed me my purse. He then walked back around to the driver’s side. As he was getting into the Jeep, I looked over to my friends as they smiled and blow me kisses while walking away. Tim drove me two blocks to my apartment.

When we pulled up I noticed his car was in the parking space next to mine. I could see balloons and gifts in the backseat. He opened my door and lead me into the building outside of my door. No words were spoken until he uttered, “I’m not here to stay. I just wanted to make sure you made it home safely because the snow was coming.” I told him thanks and he unlocked my door and stood outside of the door and asked if he could give me something. I told him I didn’t need anything but he said he had a hug for me if I’d take it. Confused because I just saw all this stuff in his car. I gave him a hug and he whispered in my ear, “I will always love and protect you both forever” as he placed his hand on my belly. Then he told me to get some rest.

I took off my coat, placed it on the back of the chair at my dining room table and placed my keys and purse on the table. I walked over to the window and watched him get into his car and drive off. I grabbed a water from the fridge and went into my bedroom. Changed into more comfortable clothes. Grabbed my remotes and turned to Lifetime. As I laid snuggled in my bed, I started to really miss Tim. Although he will never admit it to the public we watched some great Lifetime movies together.

Before I knew it, I was awakened by a knock on my door. I looked at the clock and it was 12:00 a.m. As I walked slowly to the door and looked through the peephole I saw that it was Tim. I asked who was it and allowed him to say his name. I opened the door and I could see all the gifts, flowers and balloons. I smiled and said sarcastically, “I thought those were for someone else.” He said he just wanted to see a smile on my face. I told him that I didn’t buy him anything and he asked if he could have just a few hours. He had brought movies as he knows one thing for sure, I can’t resist a good movie. He placed the gifts on the table, walked me over to the coach and we fell asleep watching a movie.

Since then, our Valentine’s Day has changed as we also celebrate our middle daughter’s birthday on that day. However, I always want to make sure that I had something special for him on this date. Below are a few things I am thinking about getting to express my love for Tim on Valentine’s Day.
