Bright Smile 101: Routines For Whitening Teeth Naturally

Sharing is caring!

Everybody likes having white, shiny teeth that make your smile perfect. There are many ways to whiten teeth, but not all of those methods are completely healthy for your teeth and gums. Some of them can make your teeth sensitive for a couple of days or even disturb the natural balance inside your mouth, making your teeth prone to caries.

Luckily, there are routines for whitening your teeth that are completely natural and harmless.

1.  Activated charcoal

This may sound a bit controversial, but it comes from holistic dentistry and the results may truly impress you.

Ok, it will look hideous when you actually apply activated charcoal on your teeth and you may get scared that it will leave permanent stains on your teeth, but don’t worry – simply rinse your mouth and brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste. You’ll immediately notice your teeth are whiter.

Activated charcoal is actually highly absorbent, meaning it binds to tannin that’s responsible for stains on our teeth.

2. Oil pulling

This is a traditional Indian remedy that improves your oral hygiene and removes the toxins. You simply swish oil around the mouth – the oil kills the bacteria that are a common cause of plaque, which makes your teeth look yellow.

You can choose between sunflower, sesame, and any other oil. Maybe coconut oil is the easiest choice because it tastes nice and has additional benefits for your oral hygiene, like reducing inflammation.

3. Using 3% hydrogen peroxide

You can also try combining the oil with 3% hydrogen peroxide. More precisely, after using the oil, pre-rinse your teeth with it before actually brushing them. Of course, don’t swallow this liquid because it burns – just swish it around your mouth and spit it out. 3% Hydrogen Peroxide is also great for cleaning your tongue, especially if you have problems with a coated tongue.

The difference between the hydrogen peroxide in the commercial toothpaste is that the toothpaste has a much bigger amount of it than what you will use.

4. Homemade whitening toothpaste

Sometimes the most obvious thing works, but you have to have a special recipe with natural ingredients. You know it’s natural because it only contains a couple of ingredients, including:

– MCT oil or even coconut oil

– non-GMO Xylitol powder

– calcium carbonate powder

This toothpaste provides you with natural calcium, which is, as you know, an essential mineral for your teeth, as well as Xylitol, which improves your dental health. And let’s not forget the oil. Whether you opt for MCT or coconut oil, it will successfully fight bacteria in your mouth and re-mineralize your teeth.

However, as with any toothpaste, it’s important to brush your teeth for a full 2 minutes. Another important factor is to use proper moves when using toothpaste and be thorough so that you don’t miss anything. Good oral care also means using a high-quality toothbrush with soft bristles.

5.  Baking soda

Baking soda is a common ingredient in toothpaste, as it’s a mild abrasive that removes stains from your teeth. It’s also good for your dental health because it creates the alkaline environment that doesn’t suit bacteria.

It’s not like using a magic wand – it will take some time to notice the results when brushing your teeth with plain baking soda, but the results will be more than satisfying.

6. Apple cider vinegar

It’s been known for centuries as a successful disinfectant. The acetic acid in it kills bacteria in your mouth, which makes it easier to clean your mouth and whiten the teeth.

However, it is also possible that too much use of apple cider vinegar could soften your teeth, which means the enamel has been damaged. So, don’t use apple cider vinegar every day and don’t swish it around your mouth for too long.

Final comment

As you can see, there are many natural ways to have beautiful white teeth. It’s up to you whether you will combine two methods or just focus on one. Just be patient and the results will amaze you.
