4 Relaxing Destinations To Visit During Pregnancy

4 relaxing destinations to visit during pregnancy

Sharing is caring!

A relaxing holiday during pregnancy might be just what the doctor ordered. It gives you an opportunity to take time out of day-to-day life and to spend time connecting with your partner, and any other children before your new baby arrive. But where should you go? Of course, there are many places to choose from – but here are four of our favorites:

1. Madeira

Madeira is a small group of Portuguese islands situated off the northwest coast of Africa, not far from the Canary Islands. This means it benefits from glorious weather, no matter what the time of year, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing babymoon.

As well as the weather, the food is another big hit. Thanks to the climate, there’s an unlimited supply of fresh produce – with restaurants serving an array of delicious, healthy meals. Perfect for both mother and baby. When you’ve had enough of relaxing by the pool, you can head into the capital, Funchal, or explore the lush, green countryside.

The Greek islands are the perfect destination for a relaxing babymoon, with Santorini topping the list. As far as beautiful islands go, you don’t get much better than this. The panoramic views of the ocean are epic – especially at sunset – with the whitewashed buildings providing a gorgeous contrast with the blue ocean.

It’s an ideal destination to visit before children too – the steep hills and numerous steps make it difficult for navigating with pushchairs and small children. The best time to visit Santorini is in the shoulder seasons – in April/May and September/October. The weather is still warm at this time of year, without being too hot, and you’ll miss the summer crowds. This means you won’t have to fight for a prime viewing spot for the sunset, and you’ll have a more relaxed time in general.

If you’re looking to head a little further afield, we recommend Sri Lanka. It’s not recommended to travel to destinations with Malaria or the Zika virus during pregnancy, and so it can be hard to find an exotic destination that ticks all the boxes. But Sri Lanka does.

It has a relaxed island vibe, good weather, and plenty of activities to keep you occupied throughout the trip. One of the things that set Sri Lanka apart from other destinations on this list is the wildlife. Most famously, it’s home to elephants and leopards, which can be seen in national parks across the island. If you’re over the morning sickness and feel up to a boat trip, you might even be able to spot blue whales, humpbacks or orcas off the southern coast.

4 Relaxing Destinations To Visit During pregnancy4. The Lake District

The UK’s Lake District is perfect for slowing down the pace of life and spending some time taking in all the health benefits nature has to offer.

A popular destination for people looking to get away from it all, there are plenty of luxurious spa hotels for you to choose from; such as the gorgeous Daffodil Hotel in Grasmere. Spend your morning taking a gentle walk around the lake, and then treat yourself to a pregnancy massage in the afternoon. What could be better?

4 Relaxing Destinations To Visit During pregnancy

Wherever you choose, we think the best time to travel is in the second trimester. By then, you’ll hopefully be over the common side effects of the first trimester (such as morning sickness or excessive tiredness) – and you might even be experiencing the “pregnancy glow” we hear so much about.
