Even though I don’t agree with the circumstances of how Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday (coming off the heels of the George Floyd situation when, at the time, black people were, and still are, asking for police reform), I am still glad it is recognized on a national level. I am also grateful to have an occasion that allows all of us to come together, celebrate our accomplishments in this country, while also reminding us of the work we still need to do.
