“HUH? WHAT’S AN ELEVATOR PITCH?”

Sharing is caring!

What is an elevator pitch? It’s a quick explanation of why someone should value you, your product, service, or idea enough to join you in meeting your objective. Its purpose is to build that person’s or your target audience’s confidence in you enough to compel them to commit the action of your choice.

ELEVATOR2“YOU MAY DELAY BUT TIME WILL NOT” -BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

O.K., something like that. Anyway – I will show you how to easily get 80% more of your prospects interested in going to that next step in your buying process in 20 seconds or less. I do that by helping you to create an impactful elevator pitch that makes your prospects want to hear more right away. Enter, the Elevator Pitch (E.P.). It’s called an elevator pitch because an elevator ride always lasts less than one minute and so does the average person’s attention span. It has to be short, succinct, yet impactful so you can interest them and catch their attention before time runs out.

YOU ONLY GET ONE PITCH TO CREATE A GOOD 1ST PERCEPTION

It’s true that you only get one chance to make a good first impression. That one chance involves a period of only a few seconds, literally. It’s said that the average person’s attention span only allows them 3 seconds to decide whether they like you and would do business with you in the future.  However, you don’t want to sound like you’re racing the clock because you may sound to them like you’re desperate for engagement, thus creating a lack of trust.

ELEVATOR3CONSIDER THE 5 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF A PERFECT PITCH

There are 5 essential pitch points you must consider in order to get the results you’re looking for. They are:

  • What problem does your product or service help to solve?
  • Who is most likely experiencing that unresolved problem?
  • How do you uniquely resolve your target’s problem?
  • Why is it urgent that your prospect connect with you?
  • When will your customer receive the results you promise?

Below I’ve outlined a framework of questioning to help you laser-beam-throw your pitch by knowing more specifically who exactly you need to pitch to and what their needs are. Let’s use my elevator pitch that I threw at you earlier in this writing as an example of answering all 5 questions.

ELEVATOR4MY ELEVATOR PITCH: CHOPPED & SCREWED

Hopefully, you’ve noticed that I’ve included all 5 essentials in my E.P.

  1. WHAT: SOLVES PROBLEM
  2. WHO: IDENTIFIED & SPECIFIED TARGET
  3. HOW: THE NICHE IN YOUR PITCH
  4. WHY: A SENSE OF URGENCY
  5. WHEN: DELIVERY & RESULTS

So, first you’ll see the edited version of my pitch, then you’ll follow the colors to match which element was being used during its curation:  “I will teach a class of only 20 hungry entrepreneurs how to easily get 80% more of their prospects interested in going to that next step in their buying process in 20 seconds or less. I do that by helping them to create an impactful elevator pitch that makes their prospects want to hear more right away. ”

  1. What problem does your product or service help to solve?
    • The need to get more prospects interested. Expand sales funnel.
  2. Who is most likely experiencing that unresolved problem?
    • Mostly Business Owners, Network Marketers and Sales People.
  3. How do you uniquely resolve your target’s problem?
    • I’m helping them to create an impactful elevator pitch.
  4. Why is it urgent that your prospect connect with you?
    • Because I teach a class of only 20.
  5. When will your customer receive the results you promise?
    • After 20 seconds of pitching their prospects.

ELEVATOR5YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE YOUR PITCH AFTER YOU’VE FOUND YOUR NICHE

Just like an all-star pitcher in the World Series, you have to practice your pitch after you’ve found your niche. Here are a few game-changing tips that can get you winning more often:

  • The tonality in which you deliver your pitch is (almost) everything. Take a few notes from Tony Robbins
  • Connecting through genuinely caring is always felt and remembered.  “Everyone communicates, few connect” –John Maxwell was speaking on a connection that involves caring about the person or audience you’re addressing.
  • Be time-conscious, but pump your breaks – speaking too fast can turn believers into doubters. Try to practice your pitch with urgency but also calm, and a 007 kind of enthusiasm and confidence.
  • If you’re face-to-face, body language while pitching will speak volumes. Make sure your body is in agreement with your mind.

Do you have an E.P. (“elevator pitch“)? Please share in the comments below. I really would love to know.
