Summer is on the horizon, and many of us are looking forward to taking a break and spending quality time with our families. If you’re counting down the days until school finishes and you’re looking for ideas to have fun together, you’ve come to the right place! Here are some suggestions to help you keep the kids entertained and create memories to last a lifetime.
Planning a family-friendly vacation
Many of us love to take a vacation during the long summer break. Vacations are an opportunity to get together with friends and family, enjoy new experiences, relax and recharge your batteries and discover different places. There are all kinds of options to consider for family trips, including city breaks, beach vacations, camping and staycations.
If you want to take a vacation this summer, but you’re not sure where to go, consider how far you want to travel, what you want to do and how much you want to spend. This should help you to narrow down your options to find the perfect location. Use the Internet to read reviews before booking accommodation and compare prices on flights, coach and train travel, hotels, apartments and villas, transfers, airport parking and attraction tickets.
Planning a trip can be expensive, and many families may not be able to afford to get away this summer. If you are on a budget, camping is a brilliant idea. Camping is an inexpensive way to enjoy adventures in the great outdoors and make memories together. Staycations can also be an excellent alternative to long-haul travel. You can stay at home and plan days out like trips to beaches, national parks, museums, theme parks and zoos. This saves on transport and accommodation costs and it’s also helpful for families that have pets and parents who can’t take time off work together.

Outdoor pursuits
Summer is a great time to get out and about and explore. When it’s warm and sunny, nothing beats going for a bike ride or a walk or trying new activities like kayaking and rock climbing. For small children, you can plan fun toddler games like treasure hunts and nature trails, which are educational and enjoyable. Being outdoors is proven to boost mental health and well-being and it’s also an amazing opportunity to discover natural beauty spots.
You can plan day trips to parks, nature reserves and national parks with your kids and meet up with family members and friends from school, or make a weekend of it. Camping is a great way to embrace outdoor living, but if you fancy something a little more luxurious, you could rent a house in the countryside or book a hotel or a log cabin. There are also some great alternatives to traditional accommodation, such as treehouses, glass igloos and bell tents and tipis.

Indoor activities
Many of us live in areas where it’s not always possible to rely on wall-to-wall sunshine in the summer. If the kids are off school and it’s raining outside, there are some fantastic activities you can plan to have fun without leaving the house. Creative games and hobbies are brilliant for encouraging children to express themselves and they’re also a really constructive use of time, especially on wet or cool days. Activities that are popular with children include painting and drawing, modeling, such as building life-like models of vehicles, their favorite TV character, or even their favorite hobby like skateboarding. There are plenty of skateboarding toys available at the fingerboard shop. Children also love baking, making dens from household items, coloring, making collages, sewing and knitting, and playing music.
If you’re staying indoors, you could also plan a movie night, write stories, perform a show or concert or whip up a storm in the kitchen and invite friends over for tea or dinner.

Festivals and events
Summer is festival season. If you’re looking to spend quality time with your kids this summer and you don’t want to travel far or spend a fortune, look for local events and festivals. Many towns and cities have a program of family-friendly events through the summer, many of which are free to attend. Look out for updates on social media, join community groups, talk to your neighbors and read local magazines and newspapers.
Most parents would like to be able to spend more time with their kids. As the summer break approaches, many of us are looking forward to enjoying quality time with our families and friends. If you’re looking for ideas for fun-filled days out or vacations, hopefully, this article has inspired you. Whether you’re ready to jet off or hit the roads, you’re planning fun days at home, or you want to explore your local area, there are endless ways to have fun with your family.

Until next time, shine amongst the stars!
