If your child has been struggling to find themselves lately and has low confidence and self-esteem levels then there can be many reasons for this. It could be that they are finding it difficult at school or are being targeted by bullies. It is important you reassure them and encourage them to talk to you about what is going on, so you can help them. Take a look below for some ways you can boost your child’s self-esteem and confidence.
Listen To Them
One of the first things you can do to boost your child’s self-esteem is listen to them. Not just any old listening while you are busy doing other things, but active listening. This shows them you actually care about them and what they are telling you. You must try to avoid as much as possible telling your child to wait if they want to tell you something. If your child comes up to you and wants you to engage with them, stop what you are doing and lend them your ears.

Always Be Available
As mentioned above, if your child comes to you and wants to talk or spend quality time with you then try and accommodate. There will be a reason your child has chosen to speak to you at that moment and it isn’t to be annoying. Something might be going on in their life that they need their parents for. If you show them you are always there for them, they will come to you at all the important times in their life and talk. If you are closed off to your children then they will also become closed off to you.

Extra-Curricular Activities
After-school clubs can really help a child flourish and come out of their shell. If you think this will help your child then take a look at clubs near you. Your child’s school might even offer clubs that they can attend with their classmates or friends. After-school clubs are not only great for your child’s social skills but also for building their confidence. They will also receive praise and encouragement , which builds self-esteem and confidence levels immensely in children. After-school clubs also show that everyone is the same through the use of kits and uniforms, check yours out at school spirit wear.

Playdates
Similar to after-school clubs, playdates are also a great way to encourage your child’s confidence and self-esteem. If they have voiced wanting to go to their friend’s houses then take them up on this. If you don’t know the parents, get to know them. You never know there could be a great friendship between you and the other mom also. If your child is older and in their teenage years then you could even allow them to take a trip out alone with their friends. This shows you trust them which will improve their confidence.

Family Unit
Finally, there is nothing better for children than feeling a part of a loving, caring family. There has been extensive research on the use of family photos in childhood and building confidence. If you display photos they feel included and part of the family. This gives them an incredible sense of achievement and love.
