Blogging is a passion for a lot of people. It gives them a chance to share their opinions on something they believe in as well as enjoy it as a hobby. A blog can be based on anything that you are interested in – if you are not interested, it can be hard to motivate yourself to write blog posts. Some blogs are based on finance, others on health and fitness, as well as family blogs, destination blogs – the list goes on.
Starting a blog isn’t as difficult as you may have first thought. With technology now, you can easily get your website made – professionally or by yourself – and then all you need to do is start writing. Whilst your website is in the process of being done, you can always spend a day or two drafting article ideas and wring them. You’ll most likely need images so factor in time when taking them yourself or like many blogs do, use stock images.
If you are looking to start up your own blog, we want to try and help make it a little easier for you. For this reason, we have put together our guide on things to consider when starting up your own blog.

How are you going to get your website created
We touched on it briefly above. If you are starting up a blog, then you are going to need a website to publish your content on. Having a website isn’t as hard as it used to be, in fact with modern-day technology there are plenty of templates already there that you can simply install on WordPress to get going. Other companies you could consider would be Wix or Squarespace. If using a drag and drop builder isn’t for you, then we would recommend getting in touch with a freelancer or an agency. Freelancers tend to be a lot more affordable than agencies which may make them a better solution for you. That said, if you have the budget and you want a high-end blog, then an agency would be the route to go down.

What topics are you going to write about
In order for your blog to be a success, it’s essential that you write about topics you are really interested in. You will want to be publishing weekly or even every couple of days in order to keep your readers engaged and coming back. If you aren’t passionate about what you are writing about, you may find yourself struggling to think of topics and actually write consistently. To help reduce the number of articles you are writing, you could reach out to a friend who could run the blog with you.

Make sure your blog name is easy to say and spell
When starting your blog, you will want to come up with a name for it. When coming up with names, the first rule would be to check if the domain is available on a site like GoDaddy or 123 reg. If it’s not available, then you will know someone else already has that name. Try to make sure the name is easy to spell as well as pronounce. If you can, base the name around the topic you are writing about and make it as short as possible – this way when people are looking you up, they don’t have to spell out a lot of words.

Consider how you are going to make money from your blog
When you start, you will not make much money at all from running a blog. However, the harder you work and the more views you bring in, the more likely you will make some income from it. Revenue on blogs is produced through sponsored posts, sponsored competitions, paid ads, banner ads, affiliate links and more. Depending on the type of blog you run, you will find certain revenue streams work better than others. This is why you want to have a good mix in order to increase your chance of earning a higher income.
We hope the above four tips have given you some insight into starting up your own blog. The key is to be patient and not rush anything. Consistency is key when running a blog, the more consistent you are, the more likely it is your views will go up. If you are trying to wind down after work, running a blog could be something that helps you.
Have you got any tips on things to consider when starting up your own blog? Which of the above tips did you find most useful? Is there anything you would like to share that will benefit our readers? Let us know in the comment box below.
