As we approach the end of 2023, it’s time to reflect and prepare for a brand new year filled with possibilities. While many focus on making resolutions for the future, I believe it’s equally important to identify and leave behind things that no longer serve us. In the spirit of decluttering and starting fresh, here are 10 things to leave behind in 2023:

Make Way for a Fresh Start!
1. Negative Self-Talk: The inner critic can be our worst enemy. Let’s silence those negative voices and replace them with self-compassion and positive affirmations. Remember, you are capable and strong!
2. Unhealthy Relationships: Whether it’s a toxic friend, a draining family member, or a bad work environment, unhealthy relationships can sap our energy and happiness. This year, prioritize your well-being and cultivate connections with people who uplift and support you.

3. Unrealistic Expectations: Striving for perfection is a recipe for disappointment. Instead, embrace your imperfections and set realistic goals that align with your values and priorities. Celebrate your progress along the way, and don’t be afraid to adjust your plans as needed.
4. The Fear of Missing Out (FOMO): Social media can create a false sense of reality and fuel feelings of inadequacy. This year, focus on your own unique journey and be present in the moment. Unplug when necessary, prioritize real-life connections, and appreciate the beauty of your own life.

5. Chronic Procrastination: Putting things off until the last minute creates stress and anxiety. Develop a system for managing your time effectively, set achievable deadlines, and reward yourself for taking action. Remember, progress is better than perfection!
6. Holding Onto Grudges: Forgiveness is a powerful tool that liberates us from the burdens of the past. Choose to let go of anger and resentment, and focus on creating positive relationships in the present.

7. The Need to Control Everything: Life is full of uncertainties, and attempting to control everything can lead to frustration and disappointment. Learn to let go of what you cannot control and focus on what you can. Embrace flexibility and adapt to changing circumstances.
8. Unhealthy Habits: We all have habits that don’t serve us well. This year, identify those habits and commit to replacing them with healthier alternatives. Whether it’s excessive screen time, unhealthy eating, or neglecting physical activity, small changes can lead to big improvements in your overall well-being.

9. The Comparison Trap: Comparing ourselves to others leads only to envy and discontent. Celebrate other people’s successes, but remember that everyone has their own unique journey. Focus on your own goals and achievements, and be proud of how far you’ve come.
10. Fear of Change: Stepping outside our comfort zone can be daunting, but it’s also where growth and transformation occur. This year, embrace new challenges, open yourself to possibilities, and be willing to step outside your comfort zone. You might be surprised by what you discover!

Leaving these things behind in 2023 will create space for new beginnings, opportunities, and personal growth. Remember, you are in control of your own life. Choose to make 2024 a year of self-discovery, joy, and fulfillment.

I’m hoping to get a better paying job in the next few weeks. But I’ll wait for the perfect opportunity. My goal is to continue paying off my credit card debt and pay extra on my car each month. I’m trying to pay it off early so I can apply that amount to my mortgage.
There’s definitely a handful of these I know I’d like to let go of before starting the new year. Not holding grudges is probably one of the most prominent items on the list I’d like to address while leaving 2023.
Yes indeed, I’m loving this post and I agree with leaving a lot of things behind! After the year I have had I’m ready for a fresh start!
What a great list. Fear of change is my biggest issue but Negative Self-Talk us another one. I have never been one to hold onto grudges as I find it very easy to forgive.
These are all great things that are good to purposely leave behind. I think we tend to keep a lot of toxic habits in our lives and it takes some work to shed those things.
