A Little Side Eye from My Husband and a Lot of Murder Mysteries

Hey friends, it’s Lavanda Michelle again, and today I’m sharing something a little more light-hearted (and probably a tad embarrassing). As much as I love cooking, parenting, and blogging, there’s a guilty pleasure lurking in the background of my daily life. Okay, it’s not just one pleasure, it’s a whole collection of them: true crime podcasts, Criminal Minds, and now the latest obsession—Cross.

And let’s just say… my husband has a lot of opinions.

True Crime and the Side Eye from Tim

If I’m not catching up on the latest episode of General Hospital (yes, I’ve been watching it since I was born, literally), you’ll find me deep in a rabbit hole of true crime. Whether it’s a podcast or a TV series, I’m all in. I love the thrill, the mystery, and—let’s be honest—the way it makes me feel like a detective. I’m often telling my husband, Tim, all about the latest case I’m listening to or watching, and he’s sitting there, side-eyeing me with an expression that screams, “Should I be worried?”

My obsession with Criminal Minds is a whole other level. I swear, I can quote Spencer Reid and get into the criminal psychology of every episode. I get so immersed in it that I’ve even started thinking like a profiler. Tim sometimes looks at me like, “Did you just start profiling me?” And yes, sometimes I do, but it’s all in good fun!

But, it doesn’t stop there. Cross is the latest series I’m hooked on. A little darker, a little grittier, and a lot of “wait, what just happened?” moments. And every time I try to tell Tim about the latest twist, he just gives me that look. You know the one. The “I’ve been married to you for years, and this is getting a little much” look.

The Daytime Drama that Never Leaves Me

Now, I know I’m not the only one with guilty pleasures when it comes to TV, but my General Hospital obsession is on another level. I mean, I grew up with that show. It’s been a part of my life since… well, as long as I can remember. I can quote every major storyline, I know every plot twist (or at least, I think I do), and I definitely have opinions about every character.

Tim doesn’t get it. He’s always like, “You’ve been watching this show forever,” and he’s not wrong! But here’s the thing: I don’t just watch General Hospital for the drama; it’s part of my routine, part of what I’ve always done. It’s the soap opera comfort food I crave.

Every time I tell him about a new plot twist or the latest drama unfolding in Port Charles, he looks at me like I’ve gone off the deep end. But the truth is, this show have been a part of my life for decades. How could I possibly stop now?

The Drama is Real… and I Love It

So, yes, I may have a bit of an obsession with true crime, fictional murder mysteries, and the soap opera world. But I think I’ve found a balance between indulging in these guilty pleasures and sharing them with the people I love—though Tim’s side-eye may beg to differ. 😂

In the end, I think we all have our little quirks, right? Whether it’s true crime podcasts, soap operas, or the latest Netflix binge, we all have those things that keep us entertained, curious, and coming back for more.

And while Tim might give me the side-eye for bingeing true crime before bed (don’t worry, I always lock the doors after), he knows it’s just who I am—and maybe he’s even a little grateful that I’m so informed. You never know when that information might come in handy, right?
