Hey y’all, it’s Lavanda Michelle!
This July 4th, I wanted to celebrate freedom and feel fabulous doing it. While fireworks lit up the sky, I lit up the grill—with meals that helped me stay on track with my weight-loss goals without sacrificing flavor or fun.
Whether you’re on a wellness journey like me or just looking for lighter ways to enjoy the holiday, I’m sharing the exact menu I prepared—filled with delicious, low-calorie, high-protein dishes that the whole family loved. Let’s dig in!

Main Course: Grilled Turkey Burgers (No Bun, All Fun!)
Why I Love It: Lean ground turkey is a great source of protein and way lower in fat than beef. I season mine with garlic, onion powder, smoked paprika, and a splash of Worcestershire.
Serving Tip: I skip the bun and wrap it in butter lettuce with tomato, onion, and mustard. Sometimes I add avocado for a healthy fat boost.

Side Dish 1: Watermelon, Cucumber & Feta Salad
Fresh & Festive: Nothing screams summer like watermelon! This salad is sweet, salty, and refreshing.
Ingredients:
- Cubed seedless watermelon
- Sliced cucumber
- Crumbled feta
- Fresh mint
- Splash of lime juice
Why It Works: It’s hydrating, packed with fiber, and low in calories—perfect for cooling off after a warm holiday walk!

Side Dish 2: Cauliflower “Potato” Salad
A Family Favorite Makeover:
Classic potato salad is loaded with mayo and starchy carbs. I swapped white potatoes for steamed cauliflower and used a light Greek yogurt-mayo mix.
Extras I Add:
- Chopped boiled eggs
- Celery
- Dijon mustard
- Pickles
- A sprinkle of paprika on top
Even my skeptical cousins went back for seconds!

Dessert: Greek Yogurt Berry Parfaits
Layered with Love:
I use non-fat Greek yogurt layered with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and a drizzle of honey. Topped with crushed nuts or low-sugar granola for crunch!
Make It Festive: Serve in mini mason jars with a cute flag or sparkler topper. They’re red, white, blue and beautiful.

Drink: Red, White & Blue Smoothie
My Go-To Refreshing Treat:
Blend frozen strawberries, almond milk, and protein powder for the red layer. Use banana and Greek yogurt for the white, and finish with a blueberry + chia seed layer.
Health Bonus: Packed with antioxidants, protein, and fiber—it kept me full, hydrated, and festive.

A Walk to Remember
Before the BBQ, we took a morning walk as a family and hit our 10K step goal by noon. That made our meal even more satisfying. I always say: celebrate with movement and mindfulness.

Final Thoughts
I’m learning that healthy doesn’t mean boring, and holidays don’t have to mean falling off track. This July 4th was full of joy, flavor, and freedom—on my plate and in my heart.
