The Post-Holiday Fog: How to Get Your Spark Back in 48 Hours

morning ritual for energy

Sharing is caring!

I don’t know about you, but I woke up yesterday morning feeling like I was moving through a giant bowl of oatmeal. The tree is (hopefully) down, the cookies are gone, but that holiday “hangover”—that sluggish, foggy, unmotivated feeling—is still hanging around like a guest who doesn’t know when to leave.

We’re six days into January 2026, and the pressure to be “on” is already starting to mount. But if your energy is still low, don’t reach for that third cup of coffee just yet.

There’s a way to fix the fog fast, and it doesn’t cost a dime. It’s a simple morning ritual I’ve been using to reclaim my focus and get my brain back into “success mode” without the jitters.

1. The “Water First” Rule

Most of us wake up and immediately ask our brains to work while our bodies are literally parched. Before you even touch the coffee pot, drink 16 ounces of water. Add a little lemon if you’re feeling fancy. It wakes up your internal organs and tells your nervous system, “Hey, we’re doing this!” It’s the easiest energy win you’ll get all day.

2. Five Minutes of Intentional Movement

I’m not talking about a grueling gym session (remember, we’re all about those home workouts and neighborhood walks now!). I mean just five minutes of stretching or a quick walk to the mailbox. Get the blood flowing. When you move your body, you move your mood. It’s physics, love.

3. The “One Big Thing” Focus

The reason we feel exhausted isn’t always physical—it’s often mental clutter. We wake up thinking about the fifty things we should do today. Instead, pick one big thing that would make you feel proud if you finished it by noon. Write it down. Ignore the rest until that one thing is done. This creates “dopamine momentum,” which is way more powerful than caffeine.

4. No Scrolling Before Sunlight

This is the hardest one, but it’s the most transformative. If the first thing you do is look at other people’s lives on a screen, you’re starting your day in a reactive state. Give yourself 30 minutes of “you time” before you let the world in. Use that time to breathe, think, or just enjoy the quiet of a January morning.

The Magic is in the Routine

You don’t need a “total life makeover” to feel better. You just need a few small, consistent wins. If you start this ritual tomorrow morning, you’ll be amazed at how much faster the holiday fog lifts.

2026 is going to be a big year for us, but we can’t build a legacy on an empty tank. Let’s take care of ourselves first so we can take on the world second.

Try it tomorrow. Just one morning. I promise your focus will thank you.
