Don’t Let Baby Weight Become The Bane Of Your Life

For most moms, from the moment that the baby weight begins to accumulate on our hips, it’s normal to think carefully about how the weight will be lost after your new addition is brought into the world. While you may be totally embracing pregnancy, that doesn’t mean that you have to embrace your baby weight. For anyone that loves to stay healthy and makes a conscious effort to make good choices, carrying extra weight can be something that can really get you down, even if it is as part of birthing a child.

You’ve probably heard horror stories from other moms who have found it impossible to shed their baby weight, and you are terrified that the same thing will happen to you. However, the fact is that if you are mindful of your weight from the get-go, and make a conscious effort to take care of yourself, you shouldn’t find that baby weight is too much of a problem for you.

With that in mind, below is a guide to how you can ensure that baby weight doesn’t become the bane of your life. For everything that you need to know about staying healthy and making it easier than ever to shed those extra pounds, have a read of this.

Look after yourself while pregnant

Did you know that one of the best things that you can do for your weight (and health) is to start watching what you’re eating and how much exercise you’re doing when pregnant? Obviously, you are eating for two, and dieting is, of course, off limits. However, that doesn’t have to mean eating anything and everything. If you want to ensure that your weight gain is kept to a minimum, it’s important to remember to make smart eating choices and to only eat when you’re hungry.

Studies have shown that by choosing to eat healthily, pregnant women can gain a healthy five pounds of weight ( in addition to weight from the baby itself). This is a small amount of weight in comparison to the huge amount that many expectant mothers gain, and is a healthy amount too. Obviously, when it comes to your weight during pregnancy, it’s important to discuss it with your doctor. However, that being said, by making healthy choices, such as following a healthy eating plan and limiting binge eating, you can ensure that when it comes to your weight, you don’t gain too much excess weight, making it harder to lose weight after you give birth.

It’s also a good idea to keep up with any regular exercise that you do – as long as your doctor deems it safe to do, of course. Even if it’s just gentle exercise, such as going for a relaxing stroll, practicing some yoga poses, or going for a swim, it doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you are staying as active as possible. You may also find that there are specialist exercise classes for expectant mothers in your area – these can also be a great way to ensure that you remain as healthy as possible while you’re pregnant.

Know what to do after you’ve given birth

First things first, after giving birth your body will naturally shed a large percentage of your pregnancy weight. There’s weight loss from the birth of the baby, the waters, and the placenta; then there’s also weight lost from breastfeeding, should you choose to do so. So usually, most new moms lose between 12 and 15 pounds during delivery, and more in the first few weeks due to breastfeeding. So it’s not as if you will need to lose all of your baby weight yourself, as a large percentage of it will come off on its own.

You will, of course, need time to heal, that’s perfectly normal, but that shouldn’t mean eating junk. If you want to shed those extra pounds and ensure that your breast milk is packed with as many nutrients as possible, it’s vital that you pack your diet with healthy, wholesome foods, and steer clear of any junk foods. By doing this, and exercising at the same time – whether it’s a walk with your baby in a stroller, practicing some gentle yoga, or doing a new mom workout, such as this one: https://www.momsintofitness.com/workouts/for-weight-loss, it doesn’t matter – you can shed your baby weight more easily.

If you ask any expert how long it will take to get your body back in shape after childbirth, they will tell you that nine months is how long it can take. You see, it takes your body nine months to grow a baby, so it’s only natural that it takes nine months to return to its pre-pregnancy state. That’s why it’s not recommended that you get pregnant again within nine months of having your last baby, as your body needs time to heal.

Don’t push yourself too hard, do things as slowly as you need to. But ensure that from the day you return home from the hospital, you are eating healthily. It’s easy to snack on junk food when you are so busy dealing with your new baby’s needs, but the fact is that this isn’t good for you or your baby. That’s why it’s so crucial that you make sure to stick to a healthy and balanced diet after you give birth to your little one, to ensure that you are able to keep yourself (and your baby) as healthy as possible.

The process of getting back into shape after having a baby isn’t always an easy one, so don’t worry if it takes a little bit of time. The fact is that it can take up to nine months to get back to looking (almost) like you did before pregnancy. So don’t push yourself too hard, take things slowly and make being healthy a way of life. It’ll take time to start looking and feeling like yourself again, but if you work at it and make your health (and your baby’s health) a priority, you will feel better for it.

  1. I have no kids yet but I know so many moms who still struggle with baby weight. I think society puts a lot of pressure on women to lose the weight but its all about lifestyle changes and just adopting healthier habits too.
