A misbehaving child can often be difficult to deal with. However, that doesn’t mean shouting or being overly forceful with them will bring certain results. Sometimes communication and clarity is key. This is not the opposite of being firm, forceful and enacting good discipline. In fact, sometimes being strong in the face of misbehavior can create good children. We’re not here to suggest that you strike your kids, or to never ever consider this a possibility. Everyone has different parenting styles, and as long as you’re making the effort to raise the best person you can by acting fairly and competently, then you should be doing a good job regardless.

However, sometimes it can pay to get to the source of a child misbehaving. Why are they doing this? Remember that this is not an unnatural activity. It’s either a natural response to something, or an effort in curiosity. Here are the main reasons why your child might be behaving badly, and how to resolve those matters:
Ill Sleep Habits

If your child has negative sleep habits or worse no sleep habits at all, it’s not hard to see why this can impact their mental state and mood. The best sleep practices for kids include regular bedtimes, a comforting sleep environment, an unwillingness to cater to a child staying up and causing havoc late at night, and they could even be influenced by a solid diet. Sleep hygiene is also important, in terms of the bedroom, the noise, the clothing they wear when asleep and the ventilation of the room.
A bad nights sleep leads to a day of tiredness, which can lead to feeling cranky and not getting sleep well later that night. Follow that up day after day, and it’s not hard to see how a small child might become overwhelmed and a terror to be around. Consider sleep first, it’s the most likely scenario.
School

School is stressful for children. Not everyone can cope with it from the get-go. Some might be experiencing difficulties in being bullied, or having a hard time keeping up with the academic work or even the simple play tasks. Talk to your teacher about any problems they might be having at school. If they are the picture of a model child there, the issue might be at home. If the behavior is extreme at school, it might be your child is suffering from a social condition, a difficulty in learning, or another issue that a Doctor might need to fix.
Home Life

Kids learn by osmosis. If your child is misbehaving, using curse words, jumping everywhere and breaking things, consider the home environment they have. Do they experience this? Are they emulating what you do, or fights that you might have with your spouse? Sometimes the hardest part of change is to realize you, or your environment is the problem.
Tailoring a home life could be the first, most important and lasting change you make to resolve these issues. Kids learn behavior from somewhere. With a more healthy home environment, firm discipline will be met with less angst, and can actually be useful to a degree.

With these simple tips to identify the issues with a misbehaving child, you are sure to find a solution sooner rather than later.

From my experience in school, as I don’t have any children, the kids who misbehaved were the ones who had a hard time at home, or who came from broken families. It was their way of revolting against their parents.

I need to make sure with my daughter to get the sleeping habits consistent. It’s not even about when she sleeps but how much she sleeps and that it’s regular. But these are good things to think about when your child is misbehaving.
