Let’s face it, running a house is not easy. Being a mom is hard enough, but traditionally we also end up with the role of homemaker and this can be where things get overwhelming. I get it. Sometimes as a family the mom is more equipped to be in charge of the day to day running of the home. The logistics of the school runs and extracurricular activities,s the cleaning, the meal times, and the rest of it. But, it can be a big task, and often moms feel the pressure to get everything right. Often planning can be your biggest asset, and there are things that you can do now that could really help you take back control of the household. Here are some of the things that could help.
Trying to predict potential problems
Sometimes the best course of action is prevention rather than having to deal with a problem, and as a household, there may be plenty of problems that you may like to prevent occurring. For example, during the winter, the last thing you want is now heating and water, so regular services of your boiler could help prevent that from happening. The same in summer, you may want your air conditioning unit to be working, so calling an ac repairman to come and echo it over before summer could help you avoid sweltering temperatures if it was to break. Take some time to write down potential issues, and how you could prevent them from happening and then get it done.
It may sound obvious, but meal planning can be a huge time saver and a chance to reduce what you spend and waste on food. Meal times can be tricky in any household, so planning ahead and batch cooking can have you reducing the mealtime battles or the temptation to order in unhealthy alternatives and convenience food.
A cleaning schedule
Cleaning can be a huge issue for any family, and so it may be time to start thinking about how you tackle the chores. Leaving them for one day can be overwhelming, whereas as a schedule can help you do jobs each day and maintain a clean and tidy home. It may be that you allocate a room per day, or use time blocking techniques to focus on cleaning for certain times of the day.
Maybe it is time you start delegating certain jobs to other family members. It may be that your children are at an age that they can start looking after their room, maybe you want your partner to pitch in a bit more and help around the home. There is no right or wrong way of doing it, just think about what might work for your family.
Planning your day and week
Finally, take the time to plan your day and your week ahead. This is good to do on a Sunday evening, for example. You could use the time to meal plan, to work out logistics for work and school, and even plan appointments and social engagements. Planning can help you stay one step ahead.
Let’s hope these tips have you back in control of your household this year.
