One of the most stressful events in people’s lives is moving. They have to pack their belongings for days or weeks only to discover that the item they require is at the bottom of the pile. If you are preparing to move, you may help the process go more smoothly by organizing your items, boxes, and personal possessions in preparation for your removal company. You could also have a professional team like the people at www.atlantahomemovers.com help you to enjoy your moving experience, rather than finding it stressful.

Make lists
When it comes to moving house, lists are going to be your best friend, as long as you actually use them. There is no point in spending time writing out lists if you are going to completely ignore them. A few weeks before moving, make a list of all of your utility providers, call them and notify them of your change of address. Then, find out who suppliers are in your new area by doing a search of internet providers by zip code for example, and arrange for everything to be set up prior to arrival. This can be a perfect opportunity to search for the best deals out there to keep all of your utility bills down too!
Before you start throwing things into boxes, make a list of the things that you will definitely need in the days before your move and immediately after. Think about the small things – what happens if the can opener is at the bottom of a box piled under other boxes? However, Christmas decorations in May are not going to be needed, so you can safely pack those away. Having a list of what you will and will not need is a great step towards organized packing.

Labels
Label everything. This will make putting boxes into the right room as you move in much easier and will help you to find things as you unpack. You do not need anything fancy, just write on the room and a brief overview of what is in the box with a permanent marker.
Of course, if you want to be REALLy organized, you could use a spreadsheet to keep track of exactly what goes where. Give each box a number and on your spreadsheet, input what goes into each box as you do it. For example:
Box 3 – Kitchen – wine glasses, tumblers, mixing bowls
Box 4 – Utility room – clothes pegs, iron, sock bags

Store packed boxes out of the way
Once you have filled a box and you are sure you do not need anything from there until you move, it is a good idea to put it somewhere completely out of the way. This gives you more room to pack and is less likely to end up getting muddled up with other things. Either hire a self-storage unit or look at the SMARTBOX Solutions, Inc. for portable and flexible storage options. If neither of these work for you, look at shutting off one room of your house as a storage room, if you have the space. Empty it out entirely and only store packed and labeled boxes in there ready for removal.

Use things you already have to store other things
Use existing storage, such as stackable shelves or boxes, ottomans, blanket boxes, and so on to store shoes and outfits you won’t be wearing in the coming weeks. Instead of purchasing dozens of cardboard boxes, you can store stuff in your laundry basket, larger dishes, or even filing cabinets. Maximizing your space and storage is the key to successful house moving.

It’s about to be that time for us too. It’s good to know some of these tips that will help when the time comes.
I have a friend who is thinking of moving really soon. I know she would love these tips.
I had such a rough time moving! My biggest tip would be if you are moving yourself, get a dolly to help you move bigger items! It’s so needed.
We haven’t moved in 17 years and we really need to think about it as our family has grown. The thought of packing everything up fills me with dread.
What great tips! I haven’t moved in years so would find this super useful in the event that I do. Thanks for sharing .
