For most families, running a car isn’t optional, because we need it to get to work, get the kids to school, and run daily errands like shopping for groceries. However, running a vehicle can be expensive, and seriously eat into the family’s budget each month. The good news is that there are some tactics you can use to cut the cost of running your family vehicle and save some precious cash. Keep reading to find out what they are.

Pay less for gas
When it comes to regular monthly costs for running your vehicle, gas will be right up there! Although there are several options to consider that will help you get this cost down to the lowest it can be. The first is to use gas comparison sites online where you can search for stations around you, and what their current prices are. This service means you can locate the station with the cheapest gas every time, and because the price is per liter, you can make some great savings this way.
The other option is to switch from a gas vehicle to an electric or hybrid one. With the first, you don’t need to pay for gas at all, only electricity. While with the second you can reduce your gas consumption and so the costs involved, and maintain all the functionality of a gas car.

Buy a new car
Another great way to lower your monthly costs for running a vehicle is to get a new car. Luckily, car dealers like Edmunds are offering brand new models like the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder at a great price. Now, you may think that paying out money for a brand new vehicle is counterintuitive. Yet that is rarely the case. Yes, your monthly car payments may go up slightly, but at the same time, you will benefit from better fuel economy, less chance of breakdowns, and being able to access a warranty if anything does go wrong. All of which can add up and save you significant amounts of savings over the long term.

Improve your driving style
Last, but not least, if you are looking to save money when running your family car, making some changes to your driving style can be very helpful.
For example, not breaking sharply unless needed (in an emergency) can help you achieve better fuel consumption. To achieve this you will need to make sure you leave the right amount of distance between you and the car in front, for the speed at which you are traveling. Also, avoiding using the electrics like your air-con when traveling at a low speed can help save fuel. Of course, better fuel consumption means less gas is needed to run your car, which of course, means less cost!
Oh, and if you have a sat-nav, be sure to use it to access real-time updates of traffic along your journey to see if there are any hold-ups ahead. Then you will be able to avoid jams which can also eat up fuel, even though you aren’t traveling very far at all.

Until next time, shine amongst the stars!

I never thought to change up my driving style. It really does help to make small changes. We have been trying to walk to the store lately.

Great tips here…every little bit counts and adds up! Thanks for sharing!
We’ve also lowered our monthly gas expenditure by riding bikes to school lately. It’s not a far drive, but still saves on gas when we can!
