Why I’m Choosing Slow Mornings and Sticky Fingers This Year

Sharing is caring!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we spend our mornings. If 2025 taught me anything—especially after those hospital visits that really forced me to slow down—it’s that “busy” is a thief. It steals the small, sweet moments that actually make life feel full.

For me, one of those moments is the smell of cinnamon wafting through the house. It’s funny how a scent can be a time machine, isn’t it? One whiff of melting butter and I’m 10 years old again, standing in Granny’s sun-drenched kitchen during summer break. She’d have that big Bundt pan on the counter, and we’d all just hover around it like a pack of hungry (but very happy) wolves.

We call it Monkey Bread, mostly because you eat it with your fingers, just like a little monkey. It’s messy, it’s fun, and it’s the ultimate way to tell your family, “Hey, let’s just sit together for a minute.”

Creating the Moment (The “Lazy” Way)

I’m a big believer that you don’t have to spend four hours kneading dough to create a “special” morning. In fact, some of my favorite memories are built on shortcuts. Using refrigerated biscuit dough is my secret weapon—it lets me spend less time at the stove and more time at the table with Tim and my girls.

If you’re craving a morning that feels like a big, warm hug, here is how I make it happen:

  • The Snip & Shake: I grab my kitchen scissors (way easier than a knife!) and snip those biscuits into bite-sized pieces. Toss them in a bag with cinnamon and sugar—it’s actually a great task if you have little ones who want to “help.”
  • The Golden Drizzle: You melt a cup of butter with some brown sugar until it’s silky. This is the “goo” that makes the magic happen.
  • The Bake: Pop it in at 350°F for about 30 minutes. Use that time to actually drink your coffee while it’s still hot. (Novel concept, right?)

A Little Gift for Your Kitchen

I know life gets loud. Between the blogs, the goals, and the “to-do” lists that never seem to end, we need these little anchors. This bread isn’t just about the sugar; it’s about the five minutes of peace you get while the house smells like heaven.

Lavanda’s Quick Tip: If you want to get real fancy, toss in some chopped pecans or even some diced apples. It makes the house smell like a literal bakery.

I really hope you take a breath this week and make something that requires you to use your hands and forget your phone for a second. If you try this, come back and tell me—did it bring back any memories for you? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments.
