Today, I did something powerful—I showed up for myself. I rose at 4:00 AM, laced up my shoes, and stepped into the person I’m becoming. Day 1 of 75 Hard is officially complete.
I’ve started this challenge before, but this time, I brought something extra—an unshakable mindset and another challenge stacked right on top. In addition to the core 75 Hard tasks, I’ve committed to two treadmill workouts a day—one first thing in the morning, and one at night, each lasting at least 30 minutes. This isn’t just about checking boxes. It’s about building grit, endurance, and becoming the strongest version of myself—mentally and physically.
Starting Before the Sun
At 4:00 AM, while most were still sleeping, I was walking. That early treadmill session was about more than just movement. It was about intention. It was a quiet, powerful decision to claim my day before anything else could. I felt every step set the tone, not just for my morning, but for the kind of life I’m building.
Later, I made a quick trip to Harris Teeter for fresh produce—but I didn’t waste that trip. I walked laps around the shopping center while the store was still closed. There’s something incredibly grounding about walking in silence, surrounded by stillness, knowing you’re doing the hard thing while others are resting. Progress isn’t found in comfort—it’s earned in those moments of quiet effort.
What I Accomplished on Day 1:
- ✅ Two 45-minute workouts (including one outdoor walk)
- ✅ Drank a full gallon of water (yes, restroom visits became a workout of their own!)
- ✅ Read 10 pages of The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama
- ✅ Ate clean—no cheats, no alcohol
- ✅ Took my daily progress photo

Fueling the Journey
I’m currently following the Warrior Diet, which centers around a 4-hour eating window. That may sound restrictive to some, but I see it as structured freedom. It allows me to be intentional with my meals—fueling my body with purpose, not just habit.
- Meal 1: A refreshing protein berry smoothie: 1 cup strawberries, ½ cup blueberries, ½ an avocado, 1 cup water, 1 cup ice, and 2 scoops of protein powder. It was vibrant, energizing, and exactly what I needed to replenish after my early workout.
- Snack: A simple strawberry cucumber salad—just one cucumber and about half a cup of sliced strawberries. Crisp, hydrating, and satisfying.
- Meal 2: A homemade black bean and cheese burger with sautéed onions on a whole grain bun, served with roasted broccoli and sweet potato bites. No frills—just whole, nourishing ingredients that gave my body everything it needed.

Hydration = Determination
Drinking an entire gallon of water was no joke. It felt like a marathon in itself. I lost count of how many times I made the walk to the restroom—but each trip reminded me: I’m flushing out what no longer serves me, in more ways than one.
A Powerful Start
What stood out most today wasn’t the workouts or the meals—it was the feeling. The mental shift. I didn’t negotiate with myself. I didn’t wait for motivation. I acted out of commitment. And that made all the difference.
Michelle Obama’s words from The Light We Carry echoed in my heart: our light is something we carry, not something we stumble upon. And today, I carried mine with grit and pride.

Ending the Day Strong
I wrapped up the evening the same way I started it—on the treadmill. That second 45-minute session wasn’t just a workout; it was a declaration that I finish what I start. My legs were tired, but my spirit felt stronger than ever. I ended Day 1 not just with sweat, but with pride.
If you’re thinking about starting something hard, here’s the truth: the hardest part is not the treadmill, the water, or the meal planning. The hardest part is starting. But when you do—when you really commit—you begin to realize just how capable you are.
One day down. Seventy-four to go.
Let’s rise together.
