Lock 1.8

Lock 1.8

After his heart-felt prayer for Lock, William closed his eyes in silence. He felt a hand on his shoulder. It was Alex. Alex looked at William with tears in his eyes and said, "They need you upstairs." William ran from the altar and repeatedly pressed the elevator button but because that first minute felt like 20, William decided to race up the five flights of stairs. All he could think about as he ran was the distraught look on Alex's face. As he continued up, he repeated out loud, “Please Father! Please!" as he made it pass each floor. The climb from the fourth to the fifth was the hardest. At this point, William was nearly crippled with fear.

As William was escorted from the room, he could see Marilyn running towards the room as the constant buzz from the monitor sounded as Lock drifted off.  He could see the fright in Marilyn's eyes as she also heard the nurse from the nursing station repeat, "Code blue in room 531." She dropped their drinks as she ran down the hall. The fear in her eyes was undeniable. William sank to the floor as she stormed past him trying to enter the room when the nurse stopped her and said, "We need to help her. Please stay out!"

"Was this it? Was my life ending?" is what went through my head as my eyes shut. "I am not ready." I thought as my eyes opened to my best friend Marilyn pleading for me to fight as hard as I could. I could hear the ambulance's sirens as the paramedic flashed a light in my eye. “She looked at me! She looked at me!" is what I could hear Marilyn say as my eyes became heavier and I drifted off.

The cab driver repeated, “143 22nd Boulevard?” I said, “Yes.” although my eyes were glued to what I left behind. I was looking out the back window of the cab as William and his companion seemed smaller and smaller. “Ms. Ms. Fasten your seat belt!” the cab driver repeated several times, but I couldn’t look away. I saw the young woman rub William's head as they turned and walked away.

LOCK 1.3

I laid quietly and tears fell from my eyes as I thought about the words that made breathing unbearable. I could see him as he uttered those words, “Lock! Baby, the cancer is back. We beat it once and we will beat it again!”  I could not believe what I heard. I saw so much in his eyes. I saw sadness, disappointment, hope, and fear.

LOCK 1.2

LOCK 1.2

As Marilyn got comfortable in bed, Pawl rested neatly between us. Although I was happy to see my best friend, I wasn’t sure if she could get me through the days ahead. As Marilyn and Pawl feel asleep, I laid quietly and tears fell from my eyes as I thought about the words that made breathing unbearable. I could see him as he uttered those words, “Lock……………”

Tears fell from my eyes while reading of a "Very Emotional Valentines." It was a beautiful story with a twist and a tell of true love. It totally drew me into her emotions and for a moment my troubles were out of mind. I thanked her in the comments for such a great read. I placed the tablet on the nightstand and turn off the lamp. Suddenly, there was a knock on my door......
