Why I’m Starting the 75 Hard Challenge on May 12—And Why This Time Is Different

Starting 75 Hard

Sharing is caring!

Hey friends! It’s Lavanda Michelle here, and I’m back with something bold, brave, and incredibly personal.

If you’ve been following my wellness journey, you already know that I’m all about growing in mind, body, and spirit. I believe in showing up, even when things get tough. And let me tell you—this challenge I’m taking on? It’s tough. It’s called 75 Hard, and I’ve attempted it not once, but twice before. The first time I made it to Day 7 before a severe asthma attack landed me in the ER. The second time I got to Day 15—only to be stopped in my tracks by a broken foot. Talk about setbacks, right?

But here’s the thing: I don’t see those moments as failures. I see them as powerful lessons, building blocks on my journey toward long-term transformation. They didn’t break me—they prepared me.

And now, I’m ready to go again. Starting May 12, I’m diving headfirst into 75 Hard for the third time—but this time, with more clarity, more structure, and something new: I’m reviving my YouTube channel and sharing my journey in real time. Blog readers, subscribers, and soul sisters—this one’s for you.

Let’s do this together.

What Is 75 Hard, Anyway?

Created by Andy Frisella, 75 Hard isn’t your average fitness challenge. It’s a full-blown mental toughness program designed to build grit, discipline, and self-respect. For 75 straight days—no excuses, no exceptions—you commit to:

  • Following a diet (your choice, with zero cheat meals and no alcohol)
  • Completing two 45-minute workouts daily—and one must be outdoors
  • Drinking 1 gallon of water every day
  • Reading 10 pages of a non-fiction or personal development book
  • Taking a daily progress photo

Sounds intense? That’s because it is. But the payoff is real. It’s not just about fitness—it’s about becoming the most resilient version of yourself.

And that’s exactly what I’m after.

I am starting 75 Hard at my new heaviest weight ever: 242.6. My goal is to learn discipline—just in case I ever face a health issue and my motivation fades. In the past, I’ve felt defeated when that happened. This time, I will call on my consistency, commitment, and discipline to get me through.

Why May 12? Why Now?

Since June 1, I’ve been laser-focused on healing, health, and wholeness. I’ve shed over 40 pounds, developed a movement routine I love, and found joy in the little things—like walking trails with my family or using my under-desk treadmill while working. I’ve logged over 500,000 steps per month, embraced intermittent fasting, and nourished myself with functional foods that support real, lasting wellness.

After a long recovery and full clearance from my doctor, I’m finally feeling like me again. My lungs are strong, my energy is back, and I’ve made peace with what my body has been through.

But I’m not stopping here.

I don’t want to just manage my health—I want to optimize it. I want to thrive with intention, vitality, and purpose. And 75 Hard feels like the next right step.

My starting point? I’m grounding myself with The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama for my first 10 pages. Her words are the perfect way to begin—uplifting, honest, and full of strength.

My 75 Hard Game Plan

This time, I’m not just following a checklist. I’m building a life around the values this challenge represents.

  • Simplicity over stress: My workouts will include walking, yoga, and bodyweight strength training. Nothing fancy—just consistent effort.
  • Grace over guilt: I’m proud to try again. Setbacks are not failures—they’re just part of the journey.
  • Documentation with heart: I’m sharing every step, sweat, and struggle—not only here on the blog, but also on YouTube. From daily check-ins and meals to real moments of triumph and truth.

You’ll see it all: the wins, the challenges, and the raw reality of what it takes to show up for yourself every day.

Rising After the Fall

Let’s be real—this isn’t just about the challenge. This is about healing forward.

After losing 42 pounds, I faced a major health setback that derailed everything. Recovery was humbling. I gained the weight back (plus more) and had to rebuild from the inside out—emotionally, mentally, and physically.

But here I am. Standing strong. More centered. More aware. More compassionate with myself.

And through it all, I discovered the power of functional foods, deep sleep, gentle movement, and stress reduction. If you’ve read my post My Health Journey: Discovering the Power of Functional Foods, you know that this isn’t a phase—it’s a lifelong commitment.

This challenge is simply the next chapter.

I lost 40 pounds in just 2 months, more than once. That transformation reminded me of what’s possible when I stay focused and consistent. Now, I’m ready to do it again—stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever. Let’s see what I can achieve this time.

Join Me—At Your Own Pace

Thinking about doing 75 Hard? Or maybe something more flexible like 75 Soft or even 30 Gentle? Wherever you are—start there. Walk a little more. Drink more water. Set one goal. Build momentum.

This is a safe space for growth, grace, and transformation. You don’t need to do it perfectly—you just need to start.

Final Thoughts: From Attempt to Intention

This is my third attempt—but it’s my most intentional one. I’ve fallen before, and I will fall again. But every time, I rise with more knowledge, more self-love, and more purpose.

So here’s to Day 1 (again). To trying again. To doing hard things with heart.

This time, I’m not just doing the challenge—I’m inviting you to do life with me.

Let’s go. Let’s grow. Let’s thrive—together.
