This post is here to hold your hand through it if so! Everyone can turn to getting a little more healthy from time to time, whether it’s out of pure want or because you have an actual need to. However, sticking to something that’s physically and emotionally taxing is incredibly hard sometimes depending on the kind of person you are, but it doesn’t always have to be when you can find the right advice online!
So we know it’s easy for people to talk about their journey online, but they don’t tend to broadcast the darker moments, and the amount of work put into their fitness journey is never quite translated over. Yet, here are some tips on sticking to a routine that otherwise won’t fit into your schedule or life.
Do it For the Right Reasons
We often like to convince ourselves that those people we see on the front of magazines don’t really look like that and to find evidence to confirm these biases we search places like aretheyonsteroids or look on chatrooms for ‘experts’ in the field. However, whilst photoshop always makes someone on a magazine look a lot smoother than they really do, don’t let yourself be put down by these unrealistic standards! There’s plenty of ways to achieve your dream body shape naturally, as long as that’s something you really want to do!
If you can do something for yourself, you’re more likely to want to succeed, meaning you stick at it for longer to make sure you see the results you want. Start jogging because the after effects make you feel good, and because working up a sweat gets those endorphins pumping when you look in the mirror and notice how good your legs are looking after a week of getting up earlier to workout.
Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself
You’re not going to see results immediately! Remembering that is the first step, and thus pacing yourself follows along naturally. Don’t push yourself immediately into a hard routine in which you work all your muscles at once, as this is the best way to put yourself out of action for a good week with aches and pains and stiffness.
So, taking it easy despite pushing your body to the limit is key, and finding that balance can be hard. Be kind to yourself and remember that whatever you try is good enough, and you can always increase as you go on and on.
Split it Up into Manageable Chunks
So you should do about 30 minutes of exercise about 5 times a week, with some people saying it should be done 7 times a week, and let’s face it that’s a large amount of time to try and chop out of a normal routine to get something done. 3-4 hours spent on exercise? Wouldn’t it be nice to get it done all in one go? Well, maybe if you had the stamina of a superhero! Otherwise, you’re just going to tire yourself out and turn yourself off from the idea of exercise immediately.
If you’re the kind of person who has no time left to themselves, or no energy left after a day at work or being with your family, you can still do your workout when you want to. Take 10 minutes before bed or before work and do some quick exercises, as fast-paced bursts burn the most calories.
Let Yourself Get Used to it
If it’s a habit, you won’t have any trouble sticking to it. Often, we have to make a conscious effort to get things done, such as work or carrying out a hobby, but sometimes things become mundane. That’s what you want to exercise to be!
Sticking at it until you can’t imagine your routine without it is quite a good sign, as being able to keep in the mood no matter how you’re feeling is incredibly useful. Of course, you don’t want it to become an unhealthy habit, as becoming obsessive isn’t going to serve you any good in the long run, but having exercise be as natural as brushing your teeth at the end of the day is good for you and your anxieties over it.
So no, fitness doesn’t have to be exclusive to people who can focus on something with all of their energy. Even if you just have five minutes to spare or you can’t afford a gym membership, you can do some lunges with nothing more than a bit of space and know-how.
When I was at my largest weight ever I had to take control. I decided to research and start my journey. Have you started a weightloss Journey? What are your fitness challenges? Do you go to the gym or are you prefer home workouts?

It’s so easy to compare ourselves against fitness models and get depressed. But even their bodies aren’t reality. I try to do a mix of cardio at the gym and yoga/pilates/barre at home.

I think splitting it up to manageable chunks is such a great tip! Fitness can be really overwhelming if you’re starting out.

I completely agree that when taking on fitness you need to do it for you. If you are doing it for someone else then it makes absolutely no sense.

I really want to start exercising but I just don’t have the motivation to do so. Haha
When I did it last year I only lasted for a week and then went back to my normal routine. I think it’s nice to find something that motivates you to continue
