No matter how much you love your workout regime, there’s no denying that doing the same thing, over and over, can become a little… tiresome. With fitness, keeping yourself interested and motivated is a key component of ensuring your continued improvement— but it’s also a component that many of us miss out on. We get stuck in the same routine, making only minor improvements, to the point where the boredom can make us feel like giving up.
If you have felt the pressing need to try something new, then trying an outside-the-box fitness idea might be just what you need. Say goodbye to the gym, the weights, and the same old pilates stretches, and embrace something truly different that still provides a route to reaching your fitness goals. Below are a few ideas you may want to consider trying out…

Take to the water
Water-skiing might be the kind of activity you tried once on vacation a few years ago, but after a few unceremonious falls into the water, decided it wasn’t for you. That’s a shame because water-skiing is an absolutely fantastic fitness activity.
If you can be persuaded back onto skis, then you’ll be achieving the kind of all-body workout that would take hours in the gym. What’s more, water-skiing burns around 300 calories per hour, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for weight control activities too.
The U in team
Teams aren’t just for kids; there are plenty of sports teams that you can join and play with as an enthusiastic amateur. A scan through local listings should elicit a list of different teams for you to consider. If you like high energy and calorie-burning sports, then why not try lacrosse? Or perhaps you prefer something more sedate, in which case synchronized swimming might be the best choice for you.
The above are just examples; whether you choose to fill your life with time spent in lacrosse jerseys, swimming caps, or something else entirely, joining a team could improve your fitness experience immensely.

Giddy up
Many people assume that horse riding is an easy activity; after all, the horse is doing all the work– right?
Wrong. Horse riding requires intense core strength, as well as providing a thorough workout for your shoulders and legs. At trotting speed, you’ll be burning around 400 calories per hour, and you’ll definitely feel the effect of the workout in your legs and core afterward.
Not only is horse riding great exercise, but it’s also great fun– you can escape the gym, explore the world on horseback, and develop a relationship with your trusty steed. There are riding schools dotted all over the country, so you should be able to find one near you if you want to give it a go.
In conclusion
As the above makes clear, maintaining your fitness isn’t just about running on a treadmill or lifting weights. Add some excitement to your exercise regime by trying something different; you’ll be surprised by just how good the change feels. What are some activities you have chosen to free yourself from the gym? Have you given any of these a try? Please share in the comments below. I really would love to know.
Until next time, shine amongst the stars!

Good for you! Thank you for reading & sharing your thoughts!
This is such a fun list of activities that also count as workouts!! I used to go horseback riding with my dog, that way we both got a workout, which was way better than going for the same old boring walk all the time! I feel like some of these ideas aren’t that accessible to everybody though, but it’s a good way to get people thinking about other untraditional ways to workout!
